Just upgraded to Dish HD with a new 47inch HD TV. Trying to figure out where the 5.1 audio is. I've tried two setups, using the optical output on the HD (VIP622) to the optical input on my Onkyo 5.1 Stereo Receiver. How do local channels work? Can someone give me some technical details about how DirecTV local channels work?

I know they have a list of "local receive facilities" around the country which uplink the local channels to the satellites. Now I know they don't have that many satellites so am I to assume that every DTV satellite is constantly broadcasting every local channel? This would mean that the smart card knows which stations are local ...
